Heather & Clay

A woman standing on rocks by a shoreline, looking across the water with a backpack, near trees and hills in the background under cloudy sky.
Branchless bushes and greenery on rocky ground.
A person holding a bundle of dry, leafless twigs in a green and white striped bag during sunset in a hilly outdoor setting.
A ceramic blue container with a textured surface and a speckled pattern, and a matching lid being lifted off by a hand, revealing a dark interior. A decorative wooden branch is placed on top of the lid, secured with wire.

I create lidded pots that incorporate heather root and driftwood; materials I gather during my walks across Scotland. I am often to be seen with bits of wood sticking out of my rucksack! Each piece carries its own story, shaped by the place where the root or wood was found.

I’m continually drawn to the pairing of these two contrasting yet connected materials—both formed by the earth, each bringing its own character and history to the work.

A selection of these works is available at the Nook Collective shop in St Andrews, with additional pieces at my studio. If you’re interested in acquiring one, please get in touch.
